Privacy Policy
Last updated: 14 August 2026
BestAuckland is published by Amit Sharma as part of the NZ City Guides network. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use this site. We handle personal information in line with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.
What we collect
You can read every ranking on this site without giving us anything. We only receive personal information when you choose to hand it over:
- your email address, if you join the Auckland insider list;
- your name, email and message, if you contact us or enquire about advertising.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not pass it to anyone except the service providers described below.
Advertising cookies
This site carries advertising through Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.
You can opt out of personalised advertising at Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a third-party vendor’s use of cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages get read — the pages you view, roughly where in the world you are, and what kind of device you use. IP addresses are handled by Google. We never see a name or an address from analytics, and we do not try to identify individual readers.
Things stored on your own device
Some features keep data in your browser’s local storage rather than sending it to us — your saved shortlist, any itinerary you build, and your light or dark theme choice. That information never leaves your device, and clearing your browser data removes it.
Business listings
The businesses ranked and listed here are third parties. Their names, addresses and opening hours are business information rather than personal information, and some of it is reproduced from OpenStreetMap under the Open Database Licence, with a link to the source entry on each listing. If you own a listed business and want an entry corrected or removed, contact us and we will deal with it.
Emails
If you join the insider list you will get occasional emails about new rankings and local finds. Every one carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately. We do not add anyone who has not asked to be added.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020 you can ask what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, and ask us to delete it. Email us and we will action it. If you are not satisfied with how we handled a request, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.

Changes
If this policy changes we update the date at the top. Material changes to how we handle personal information get called out on the homepage rather than slipped in quietly.
